Oldest giant wine barrel in the world
Relegious matters were not the only area in which bishops of Halberstadt felt a higher calling. In 1594, Bishop Henry Julius commissioned the construction of a giant wine barrel with a capacity of 144,000 litres, which can now be found in the cellar of the "Jagdschloss" restaurant in the Spiegelsberge hills.

This symbol of episcopal power ranks among the oldest giant wine barrel in the world. The people of Halberstadt went on to complete what Henry Julius had begun and now serve wine from the barrel on special occasions such as the annual park festivals.
